Jan 04 - Spanish Government To Give “Harassed” Fishermen €450,000

Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment will this year grant a total of €450,000 in state aid to Spanish fishermen from La Linea and Algeciras who are unable to work in waters surrounding the Rock because of the continuous “harassment” by Gibraltar law enforcement agencies.

According to reports in Europa Sur, this latest grant is an extension of government help that started in 2013 when the Gibraltar Government created an artificial reef in BGTW off the western end of the runway.

The Spanish government claims that Gibraltar law enforcement agencies continue to “harass” fishermen from across the border thereby preventing them from earning a living in traditional fishing grounds.
