Jan 06 – MP Probes Cameron On Gibraltar’s “Growing Anxiety” Regarding Brexit

The prospect of the UK leaving the EU and its potential negative effects on Gibraltar were briefly discussed yesterday during a session of the House of Commons.

Andrew Gwynne, the Labour MP for Denton and Reddish, asked David Cameron if he had discussed his EU renegotiation efforts with Mr Picardo and whether the Prime Minister recognised “the growing anxiety of Gibraltarians at the prospect of British exit from the European Union.”

Mr Gwynne also referred to the possibility that the European Commission and other member states “might take sides in future deliberations between Britain and Spain.”

The Prime Minister answered that he had not recently discussed the matter with Mr Picardo and repeated his pledge that Gibraltarians would be able to vote in the forthcoming referendum.

“I have not discussed the issue recently with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, with whom I am on very good terms. But of course people in Gibraltar will have a vote,” he said.
