Feb 02 - Chief Minister Appears On BBC’s ‘Daily Politics’
The Chief Minister appeared on BBC2’s flagship politics show ‘Daily Politics’ at lunchtime today.
His contribution follows a ‘Soap Box’ section on the same progamme featuring Richard Norton-Taylor which aired on the 20th January during which the Guardian journalist called on the UK to hand back Gibraltar and the Falklands.
Mr Picardo was given his own ‘Soap Box’ slot in the form of a short film shot locally last week. The film sees Mr Picardo at various locations on the Rock speaking about Gibraltar’s continued strategic importance and buoyant economy.
This was followed by a live studio interview with the show’s presenter Jo Coburn. Mr Picardo answered questions on self-determination, Spain’s sovereignty claim and Brexit.
Mr Picardo said that, even in the event of the UK leaving the EU, Gibraltar’s current economic model would remain prosperous if it continued to have access to the single market.
