Feb 16 - Second Algeciras Pilot “Incursion” This Month

An Algeciras pilot vessel entered BGTW yesterday without notifying the Gibraltar Port Authority. The vessel reportedly ignored instructions issued by Gibraltar Port officials.

This is the second incident this month where the privately-run pilot vessels have boarded tankers that were anchored in local waters and sailed them into Algeciras port.

The incident drew the following response from the Convent: “…we raised concerns with the Spanish Authorities about pilot boats operating out of the Port of Algeciras entering BGTW without permission.  We will continue to do so.”
