Mar 21 – GSD Calls For “Clarity” On Fishing Licensing

The GSD says there should be “clarity over the contrary statements issued by the Government and the Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers last week”.

The party says that, in what is “a clear difference of opinion” over what was agreed at a meeting of the Fishing Working Group held on 8th March, the Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers (GFSA) is dissatisfied with the Government's proposed changes to the licensing arrangements.

The GSD says these changes “effectively relax the requirements” for Spanish recreational anglers fishing from boats within British Gibraltar Territorial Waters, as reported in the Spanish press. The party adds that the GFSA have accused the Government of spin.

GSD MP Trevor Hammond said: "The Government should categorically deny those reports that have been made in the Spanish media indicating that the fishing licensing regime was to be amended. It should
also confirm that no such change will be implemented without the full and
prior agreement of both the Fishing Working Group and the Nature Conservancy Council".
