Jun 09 – Farewell Reception For Faroe Islands Committee
A farewell reception was held today at lunchtime for the Faroe Islands’ Finance Committee which has been in Gibraltar this week on a fact–finding mission.
Their visit to the Rock has included meetings with the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia and other Government Ministers.
Speaking at the reception at the Garrison Library, the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said that microstates like Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands face similar challenges and that there had been many opportunities for the mutual exchange of knowledge during the trip.
Ruth Wang, the Chairperson of the visiting Committee, said: “We now know much more about Gibraltar and I think we can say that you have opened our minds to doing things differently. We are certainly similar in many ways: small but few but certainly not insignificant.”
