Jun 23 – Deputy Chief Minister: Remaining In EU Is “Extremely Important” For Gibraltar

The Deputy Chief Minister has today repeated his view that remaining in the EU is “extremely important” for Gibraltar.

After voting at the St Anne’s School polling station at lunchtime, he said: “It’s been a long campaign. In Gibraltar at least the arguments are well understood and the general impression seems to be that people here will vote in favour of remaining in the European Union.”

Dr Garcia said he was aware of how close the contest was and the steps Gibraltar would have to take in the event of a ‘Brexit’: “The situation in the UK is a bit more worrying – certainly the polls seem to be bouncing in both directions. From our perspective we think it’s extremely important that Gibraltar remain in the EU. In the event that the vote goes a different way, obviously we’ll have to re-position our economy and re-plan our strategy.”
