Jun 23 - Polling Stations Across Gibraltar Close With A 83.6% Turnout - What Happens Now?

Gibraltar has come out in force for today’s EU referendum. When polling stations closed across the Rock, 20,174 people had cast their vote on whether the UK and Gibraltar should leave or remain in the European Union. This represents 83.6% of the electorate.

EU Referendum Timeline:

23:00 – Verification process begins as UK polling stations close.

01:00 – 02:00 - Gibraltar result expected. Chief Minister and Director of Stronger In Campaign to deliver short speech at University of Gibraltar.                                      

01:30 – Results begin to be reported for a small number of UK councils 

03:00 – First big wave of results with 22 UK councils expected around this time                                               

05:00 – The largest wave of results with 88 UK councils expected to report                                                      

06:00 – Any clear winner likely reported by now by UK media channels                                                       

08:00 – Final (more rural) areas report                         

09:00 - 10:00 – Official result will be called in Manchester, “around breakfast time”, according to the Electoral Commission
