Jun 24 - Gibraltar’s Voice Is Clear: 96% Want To Remain In The EU – Results Breakdown

A loud cheer echoed through the atrium of the University of Gibraltar following the announcement that Gibraltar had voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union.

The Rock was the first area out of 382 councils participating in the vote to declare its results just after 12:30am local time.

Out of 20,174 people who voted in today's referendum – which represents 83.64% of the total electorate – 19,322 expressed their wish to remain in the EU. Only 823 people voted to leave the EU.

Broken down as a percentage, this represents a huge 95.79% share for ‘remain’ and a mere 4.08% share for ‘leave.’

Although results have only started to trickle through from the UK, the overall picture emerging is of a very close contest between both camps.
