Sep 15 - GSD Asks Government To Re-Read Communiqués Before Replying

The GSD is urging the Government to “thoroughly read the press releases” before replying. The GSD says it stated yesterday that it fully understands the cost issues affecting the implementation of disability legislation, more so to the private sector, but insists that it did suggest solutions to confronting the cost.

A statement continued: “The Government has in any event had five years to implement the UN Convention, which was commitment in their 2011 manifesto. In that time the Government has embarked on a record spending spree. The reality is that the GSLP-Liberals have had plenty of time and money, but have decided to prioritise huge spending in other areas.

“Moreover, it is all very well for the Chief Minister now to say that there will be significant financial implications in the implementation of the UN Disability Convention but this must have been known to him when he promised implementation both in his manifesto and in answer to questions from the public during the 2015 election campaign.”
