Nov 11 - Gibraltar International Airport Beats Passenger Figures During Summer Months

  • By June 2016, figures already surpassed record August 2015 figures.

  • A record 60,360 passengers handled in August 2016

    Gibraltar International Airport has recorded an increase of 23.6% in passenger growth in the first 10 months of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015. Up to the end of October 2016, 468,874 passengers have been processed through the airport, versus 379,209 passengers in the same period last year, an increase of 89,665 passengers.

May 2016, with 49,583 passengers processed, beat the monthly record reached last August 2015 with 47,359 passengers recorded. July 2016 was another record month with 58,719 passengers but was again beaten in August 2016, with 60,360 passengers passing through, making it the busiest month in the airport’s history.

Gibraltar Airport currently serves 8 destinations, 6 in the United Kingdom and 2 in Morocco. This summer season saw a record 50 weekly flights operating to the following destinations:

Birmingham: 4 weekly flights

Bristol: 3 weekly flights

Casablanca via Tangier: 2 weekly flights

London Heathrow: 13 weekly flights

London Gatwick: 17 weekly flights

London Luton: 5 weekly flights

Manchester: 6 weekly flights

This winter season, which started Sunday 30 October, will also see an increase in services to the Rock, up to 36 services per week on average compared with 29 on offer weekly last winter season. All destinations served through the summer period will continue to be served during winter.
