Dec 22 - GSD Says Less Populism Is Needed, And More Thought
The Leader of the Opposition says he has not misunderstood the comments made by Minister Costa on the decriminalisation of drugs.
In response to a statement by Number Six, the GSD said: "The Minister was very clear and said that his personal view was that all drugs (not just cannabis) should be decriminalised and that the Government would consult the community on the decriminalisation of cannabis.
"The GSD believes that we should be cautious on this issue and if the Government is intent on pursuing this agenda, then it should be expert led on the basis of real scientific evidence.
"We repeat that the GSD will not jump on every bandwagon or fad for the sake of short term populism, particularly on an issue that has far reaching consequences for society."
