Jul 24 - First Gibraltar Consultative Council Meeting Held

The Gibraltar Consultative Council held its inaugural meeting in Number Six this afternoon to discuss issues which are of national interest.

The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, and was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia, as well as the Minister for Justice Neil Costa, as well as life members who include former Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of Gibraltar.

Before the start of the meeting, Mr Picardo said he is grateful to all those who attended the meeting today, to take exchange views and take advice on matters of national interest and not party matters.

The Leader of the Opposition Roy Clinton was absent from today’s meeting after issuing a statement this morning which said the GSD's view was that “the legislation contains an oath and secrecy provisions, upon pain of imprisonment, that may hamper and potentially stifle the ability of the Leader of the Opposition to undertake his function in holding the Government to account”, but was willing to meet the Chief Minister on a bilateral basis to discuss any matters.
