GSD To Motion Life Membership Of The Executive To Former Leader Daniel Feetham

At the GSD's next AGM, Keith Azopardi will present a Motion to confer Life Membership of the Executive to former Leader Daniel Feetham. The GSD will also be holding elections for the Party Executive.
A statement from the GSD follows below:
At the next Party’s AGM, GSD Leader, Keith Azopardi will present a Motion to confer Life Membership of the Executive to former Leader Daniel Feetham. He will do so with the support of the Party Executive and ask members to support that proposal given Mr Feetham’s outstanding contribution to the Party.
GSD Leader Keith Azopardi said: “Danny has made an outstanding contribution to the GSD steering it through the most difficult times of transition shortly after the Party left office in 2011 and in the most difficult political circumstances between 2013 to 2017. Being Leader of the Opposition is a very lonely job at the best of times. It was an exceptionally tough time to keep the Party on track after Sir Peter Caruana stood down but Danny did that and more. Since I became Leader he has been extremely supportive of me and the work that has been done since then. This proposal that I will take to Members is an acknowledgement of his service over the last 20 years as a senior member of the Party, Minister and former Leader of the Opposition. He continues to give me sound counsel on issues of major importance for Gibraltar and I hope he does so for many years to come.”
That Motion will be combined with proposals for amendments of the Party Constitution and during the same evening the biennial elections to the Party Executive will come to a close.
The deadline for nominations to stand for election to the Party Executive is 27 April 2026 at 2pm by submitting a completed form to the Party HQ. Persons who have been members of the Party for more than 12 months and meet the qualifying criteria are eligible to stand. After close of nominations Members will be informed of the voting process in greater detail and who the candidates are.
The vote will be taken at the AGM on 4 June 2026. The meeting will start at 6pm at the John Mackintosh Hall.
After the conclusion of the count the Party will announce the new elected members of the Executive.
Mr Azopardi added: “2026 is a year of important internal democracy for the GSD. Elections to the Party Executive are held every 2 years. By 4 June 2026 we will have our new Executive in place refreshed and regenerated after Party Elections. This will be the Executive that is then tasked with discussing important issues of policy ahead of the next General Elections and choosing the candidates for the election in which we hope to deliver change to Gibraltar”
