This is a really exciting and fresh opportunity for Gibraltar to decide what direction it wants to take?
If as I sense there is a general frustration with the current party squabbling and politics then the answer is not eliminate party politics which has served us so well by providing clear choice, but rather change it by voting in a party, a candidate that has demonstrated for over 7 years that it is committed to constructive party politics.
We know it’s a free vote;
We know that even the CM last week said that they could govern with 9 not 10 ministers and they have done so.
We know from what he said last week that the Leader of the Opposition believes bring new voices into parliament would greatly enhance democracy and parliament.
We know that a vote for a 10th GSLP candidate or an 8th GSD candidate is to simply do nothing; it is the same voice but at best with the volume turned up. Those are wasted votes.
So if as a community we are serious about introducing a new voice, a constructive voice then only a vote for the PDP will deliver that. This is a perfect opportunity, the perfect democratic storm: A by election that gives you a free vote, an announcement by the Government that it has set up a Select Committee to consider Democratic and Parliamentary reform and report to parliament within 6 months and in the PDP in me a candidate that has since 2006 shown stamina consistency and sincerity on the very question of style of Government that the committee will consider.
I ask the electorate to grab the opportunity, be bold safe in the knowledge that if I do not perform judge me and vote me out in 2 years.
