Aug 12 - UK Considering Legal Action Over Border Queues

There are reports that the UK government is considering legal action against Spain after the continuation of what are seen as “disproportionate” border checks.

A spokesman for the prime minister said David Cameron was "very disappointed" by the fact that Spain had failed to act to bring an end to the tailbacks.

This follows a statement from the Spanish government saying that it was considering taking the dispute to the UN Security Council, where Argentina could be lobbied for support.

Although no one has yet confirmed what form this potential legal action might take, there is speculation that the UK might make a formal complaint the European Commission and then take the case to the European Court of Justice. There is also the option of exploring possible sanctions with the EU.
