The GSLP Youth Section held a General Meeting yesterday, Thursday 5th September. This meeting was previously announced on several occasions and was extremely well attended by both old and new young members of the Party.
A spokesperson said: “We are extremely pleased to announce that we have voted in a brand new committee, with many first time runners having put their name forward as candidates to the rest of the membership.
“A committee of 19 extraordinary young individuals, from across society’s spectrum now stand in representation of present and future young generations.
“As always, our Committee represents diversity and an assortment of different backgrounds, religions, cultures and ages which enables us to provide the utmost depiction of our Gibraltarian Community as well as a true representation of the principles and values of the younger generations.
“Those who wish to join the GSLP Party and its Youth Section can continue to do so from our website, Facebook or, as always, at our Headquarters. Adding to this, those who wish to be further involved can list themselves as Party or Youth Activists by simply contacting us.
“It is an absolute pleasure to announce that we have had a few members putting their names forward to become Student Representatives abroad. These positions will further help us to create the correct channels for the flow of information and representations between our Party and the various Student Bodies which we consider to be of paramount importance.
“Party leader and Chief Minister Fabian Picardo attended and addressed the floor. Minister and Executive GSLP Member Joe Bossano also attended and addressed the floor.
“We would like to thank them both for taking the time to participate and guiding us towards success...staying true to the values of our GSLP family.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a fantastic turn out, and of course Chico at G.A.S.A for making the evening an absolutely splendid one.
“We now look forward to the future and working together for our community and our generation.
“The meeting was attended by a great number of young members, other senior party members also attended as it is important for them to keep in touch with the younger generations and hence spread the word among their friends and family regarding the work we do and will do in the future.The mood was fantastic; there was a great family feeling, respect and euphoria. Everyone was extremely interested in everything being said and everyone had the chance to ask or speak if they wanted to. The chairperson Joelle Baglietto opened the meeting and spoke on various occasions throughout, highlighting that the biggest hope for the future lay within young people. She also mentioned that politics was a part of our history and of our daily lives and that she was extremely proud of the work done in the past, present and in the future by the GSLP youth section.
“Joe Bossano and Fabian Picardo talked about various issues, outlining the importance of the work the party membership does, particularly the youth section, and also making a reference that it is paramount that young people everywhere have a platform where they can voice their ideas and concerns.
"Acting vice Chairperson Jared Negron also spoke of his experiences, the things we had achieved and what it had meant for him to form part of the committee and the importance of the issues raised by young people in Gibraltar. Joelle closed the meeting (acting as chairperson) as she was also up for re-election as a committee member and was hence successful. She finally stated that great things lay ahead, great opportunities and golden moments; she welcomed everyone to the great GSLP family.”
