Oct 10 - Figueras to to Probe for Details on Giraldi and Marrache Cases

parliament Opposition spokesman for Justice, Financial Services, Planning, Traffic and Transport, Selwyn Figueras, will be seeking updates from the Government at next week’s session of Parliament in respect of a number of matters.

In respect of the Justice portfolio, Mr. Figueras has sought details from the Government about the costs, so far and ongoing, of two of Gibraltar’s highest profile matters: the legal proceedings stemming from the collapse of the law firm Marrache & Co and, more recently, the Giraldi Enquiry.

In relation to Traffic and Transport, the Opposition spokesman has filed questions in respect of the state of play in relation to the Gibibikes Urban Bicycle Rental scheme and asked for an update in relation to the replacement of the aging bus fleet. Furthermore, he has asked the Government to say whether it will be taking the initiative on the provision of electricity charging bays, at home and out and about, for those residents interested in investing in electric plugin/hybrid vehicles in Gibraltar, to enable them to make the green choice. Mr. Figueras is also asking the Government to say what it is planning to do to address the daily parking misery experienced by many Gibraltarians since commencement of works at the Commonwealth Park.

In relation to the park, the Opposition spokesman is asking those questions raised in the GSD’s press release on 7th October 2013, which remain unanswered, namely how much it has cost so far and how much the park is going to cost in total. Critically, the timing and cost of the provision of the amount of parking they committed to provide underneath the park and, importantly, how they are financing the project are both the subject of questions made.

In the Financial Services context, Mr. Figueras will be seeking to illicit updates from the Minister in respect of a variety of matters raised during the budget session this year.
