Dec 19 - Chief Minister Hosts Dinner For All Party Group

The Chief Minister hosted a very well attended dinner for Members of the House of Commons on Tuesday evening at Gibraltar House in London. The event saw over 30 Members of Parliament attend from the All Party British Gibraltar Group.

Mr Picardo used the opportunity to brief the MPs on the most recent developments in Gibraltar. In particular Mr Picardo explained to the Group the problems being caused by Spain at the frontier with pedestrian queues causing people to have to queue in inclement weather and the indiscriminate effect this is having on people of all ages, whether workers or visitors to Gibraltar. The Chief Minister also explained the work being done in waters-related issues and explored ways in which Gibraltar's friends in the UK Parliament can assist even further to highlight and counter Spain's illegal, politically motivated and disproportionate actions.

Yesterday, Mr Picardo hosted a lunch for members of the House of Lords who are friends of Gibraltar. The lunch was attended by 15 members of the Lords, including Lord Luce, a former Governor of Gibraltar. Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns also attended.

Both events were marked by the huge support the members of both Houses of Parliament expressed for Gibraltar and their desire to do more to assist in showing-up Spain's actions as being contrary to EU rules and treaties.

Mr Picardo also held interviews whilst in London and attended a working meeting with officials in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
