Mar 14 - GSD’s Ellul-Hammond Announces This Month’s Parliament Questions

At next week’s session of Parliament, Opposition Spokesman for Health, Isobel Ellul-Hammond, will be asking the Minister for Health for an update on the manifesto commitments to a new Diabetes Strategy, an A&E specialist, a Stroke Unit, male and female only wards and when the GHA Review document will be published, seeing that the new GHA management structure is in place.  The Opposition Spokesman will be requesting the hospital’s monthly mortality rates, a date for the publication of the GHA’s last three Annual Reports, the composition of the Community Nursing team and the sickness rate of GHA employees over the last two years.

In her capacity shadowing Social Services, Mrs Ellul-Hammond will be asking a series of questions regarding the Social Work teams in relation to staffing numbers, vacancies, appropriate vetting for cover, caseload sizes, training, supervision meetings and the number of Care Agency cases awaiting Court dates.  An update on the manifesto commitments to an independent review of the Care Agency, a review of the Adoption and Fostering services and the resourcing of the Child Protection Team to ensure long-term protection will be sought.

A date for the opening of the new Alzheimer and Dementia facility will be asked for together with any information as to when its workforce will be advertised and what the composition and skill mix will be.  More information on when the design of Ruth Macias Greenberg’s monument to the women of Gibraltar, selected a year ago, will be sculpted and erected in a prominent place in will be asked for.  And post-International Women’s Day, clarification will be sought by Mrs Ellul-Hammond on the statistics that are being collected of women in the workplace, on how, through Social Services, young girls and women will be empowered and what the practical applications of the Government’s formal request for extension of the ‘Convention of the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women’ will be to Gibraltar.

Isobel Ellul-Hammond will additionally be asking the Minister with responsibility for the Fire Brigade on any news of the promised new Fire Station and when the audit report, completed over a year ago, will be published.  Figures on juvenile crime and a date for the publication of the 2012 Census will also be sought by her.
