Mar 18 - Feetham To Move Motion On Single Sky Exclusion

The Leader of the Opposition, Daniel Feetham, has today given notice of his intention to move a motion taking note of the decision of the European Parliament to exclude Gibraltar from the EU Single Sky II + Regulation and the attempt by Spain to renege on its obligations under the Cordoba Agreements, where she agreed to “cease to seek the suspension of Gibraltar Airport from any EU Aviation measure not yet adopted".

The motion calls on the house to pass a resolution making it clear that it is completely unacceptable to the people of Gibraltar for there to be any return to position post the 1987 Airport Agreement where Gibraltar was suspended from EU aviation measures and calling on the Government of the United Kingdom to do everything in its power to ensure that (a) the Kingdom of Spain honours her commitments under the Cordoba Agreements and (b) the exclusion of Gibraltar from EU measures is not approved by the EU Council.

Daniel Feetham said: "Despite my criticisms of the Chief Minister in his handling of our relationship with Spain, the attempt by the latter to renege on her obligations under the Cordoba Agreements is wholly unacceptable to the GSD as, indeed, to the people of Gibraltar. Equally as importantly, the United Kingdom Government needs to step up to the plate and ensure that Spain understands that she cannot just simply take the benefit of agreements without any of its obligations and that she must do everything that she can to ensure that the EU Council does not approve Gibraltar's exclusion."
