Apr 01 - Landaluce Highlights Falklands Gibraltar Parallel with Argentinian City Twinning

Algeciras Mayor Jose Ignacio Landaluce will this weekend mark the 32^nd anniversary of Argentina’s Falklands invasion by signing a twinning agreement with Argentinian city, Rio Grande.

Mayor of the Argentinian city, Gustavo Melella, insists that the twinning is a wonderful piece of news, and puts the country on a different level, regarding their sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands, which is dubbed Las Malvinas by Argentina.

The story was picked up by the UK’s Daily Express, with a Gibraltar Government spokesperson commenting on the bas taste of this move. No.6 also highlighted the frequently drawn parallel between Spain’s claim to Gibraltar and Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands.
