Jun 18 - Cross Frontier Group Displeased with Ongoing Queues

cross frontier group The Cross Frontier Group, made up of Trade Union and business representatives from both sides of the border, have agreed to write to the European Commission in order to point out ‘the non compliance of the time limit set to normalise this matter and to ask for definitive action which would guarantee the rights of Citizens in this area of the EU.’

The group insists that they continue to work to achieve a normalisation of the flow at the border and to ‘combat the negative consequences which this current situation is having for the communities on both sides’. They will further submit a dossier to all newly elected MEPs, from both the UK and Spain, to inform them of the situation.

The Group have noted that the six month period which the European Commission gave to the Governments of both the United Kingdom and Spain to put in place measures to normalise the queues have elapsed and that the situation today remains the same.  In the past few weeks queues have been as long as two hours.

The Group feels that the voting public on both sides of the border have given a loud and clear message to those politicians who have voiced a wish for cooperation and are against the current aggressive tactics currently being suffered by citizens on both sides of the frontier.

They go on to say that ‘the majority of the newly elected Spanish MEPs are of the same opinion as those expressed by The Group during its visit to the European Parliament and European Commission.’
