Jul 09 - Government responds to GSD criticism about No 6 refurbishment

HMGOG - Her Majesty's Government of GibraltarIn a press release issued earlier today, the Government have hit back in regards to GSD criticism, in the form of an advert pace solely in the Chronicle, attacking works at No 6.

In the statement, the Government reminds “Mr Feetham that the re-decoration of No 6 under Mr Caruana cost in Excess of £1.1m and was money spent on plush curtains and chandeliers.”

Noting the fact that the previous administration’s re-decoration didn’t add any space to the building, the Government continue by explaining that the current works "will add almost three times the area to the building”. This meaning more office space for civil servants to be able to work in a modern office environment.

According to the Government release, the asset value of what will be created will exceed the costs of the works.

Adding to the press release, the Government also notes that  “as members of the City Fire Brigade know, the Government is working in good faith to settle the claims which the previous GSD administration failed to address”. The statement also notes a "new Fire Station fit for a properly resourced, funded and remunerated fire and rescue service for our nation”.
