Jul 14 - Picardo Insists Government is ‘More Transparent Than Ever’
Responding to the GSD’s statement outlining the ‘lavish public expenditure’ of the Government, and the running of No.6 Convent Place the Government has insisted that it has previously provided the details of increased costs.
On the matter, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo commented that the party cannot come to terms with ‘so much detailed information being provided and are making illogical statements, comparing the cost of No6 today - with extra departments added - to what it was under Sir Peter Caruana.’
Mr. Picardo goes on to note that ‘Sir Peter clearly said that debt was at prudent levels under this Government and that we were right at the last election when we said that the GSD had pushed Gibraltar to the borrowing limit and needed to raise those limits and borrow more. In the same way we have been proved right by Sir Peter himself now about those arguments, we are right about the other issues on which the current GSD leadership are taking nonsensical positions.’
