Oct 10 - Government and Opposition React to GBGA Case Ruling

news Reacting to the decision of the High Court in the GBGS's challenge against the UK's proposed gaming legislation, the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo has said that the Government is happy with the findings made by His Honour Judge Nicholas Green in relation to the relative status of the UK and Gibraltar under European law. 

He noted that it ‘entirely vindicates [the Government’s] decision to become involved in the case on a neutral basis as to the merits of the dispute between the main parties.’ The Government has also intervened in the case, launching its own case against the regime.

The Opposition also reacted to the outcome of the case, expressing their disappointment in the Judge’s decision to dismiss the judicial review claim by the GBGA. The Leader of the Opposition today spoke with the Minister for Gaming Albert Isola has pledged to support the Government in any way it can. Commenting on the matter, Mr. Feetham said, ‘this is obviously a blow and a disappointment but we remain upbeat and we have every confidence that the Gaming sector will continue to thrive in Gibraltar.’
