Nov 06 - GSD Writes To Picardo On Appointment Of Financial Secretary

The Deputy Leader of the GSD, Mr Damon Bossino, has today written to the Chief Minister seeking answers to questions relating to the appointment of Mr Albert Mena as the Financial Secretary. The GSD says it considers this to be “an issue of significant public importance” given the important role, which the Financial Secretary plays in terms of Gibraltar’s finances.

Mr Bossino put the questions to the Chief Minister at the last meeting of Parliament. Mr Bossino at the time and again now says that he seeks details of the new Financial Secretary’s three year secondment agreement with Hassans to include how much he is going to be paid and how such payment is to be effected. Information is also sought, says the GSD, as to whether the new appointee will be working exclusively for the Gibraltar Government; who the Chief Minister consulted before making the appointment; and, given that the new appointee comes from the private sector, thereby representing a departure from previous practise, whether he will be bound by established conventions in relation to political impartiality.
