Dec 03 – Sunglasses Shop Debate: Chief Minister Replies
The Chief Minister says he notes the statement from the GSD which he says seeks to imply that he somehow designed a budget measure in relation to sunglasses to favour his own business.
Mr Picardo said: "The GSD are out of date. I used to own a sunglasses shop many years ago. I have not owned any sunglasses business, however, since before I was elected as Chief Minister. The company I jointly own with other investors operates now only as a landlord of property in Main Street from where another company operates a sunglasses glasses shop. There was therefore nothing for me to have declared at the time that I have been reducing duties on a huge number of items, sunglasses included."
