Dec 15 - Equality Minister Attends Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Women
Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento last week attended meetings in London as part of her role on the regional committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Women (CPW).
Amongst other things, this committee seeks to find ways of increasing female representation in parliament but, in this most recent meeting, there was also discussion of a CPW regional conference to be held in Gibraltar in February 2015.
‘This is all part of my commitment to further the equality agenda. I am very excited about the forthcoming conference as it is the first time an event such as this has taken place in Gibraltar,’ Minister Sacramento commented. ‘Not only is the conference programme interesting and substantial, but it will bring many women parliamentarians from other Commonwealth countries to Gibraltar. People will recall the overwhelming support that we have received from Commonwealth countries in the past when I have raised our issues with Spain at Commonwealth level.’
