Jan 13 - MPs Unsatisfied with Lidington’s Gibraltar Stance

lidingtonLate last week, Europe Minister David Lidington explained that the UK Government would continue with its current stance on friction between Spain and Gibraltar. Following this move, Conservative MP, and chairman of the British Overseas Territories all party parliamentary group Andrew Rosindell has insisted that the FCO does ‘not want to upset Spain’.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Mr. Rosindell claimed that ‘Gibraltar is just a pawn.’ He went on to say that a reform of the EU that will mean having ‘to sacrifice the rights and freedoms of British citizens’ is not ‘the reform that is going to be acceptable to most people’.

Ben Stewart MP told the paper that the Foreign Office inaction is an effort to not escalate things between Gibraltar and Spain. He explained that ‘Gibraltarians are fed up of being mucked around’ adding, ‘ they want our help, not excuses.’
