Feb 19 - World Book Day On 5th March

Members of the public are once again invited to celebrate World Book Day at the John Mackintosh Hall on Thursday 5th March.

This year’s theme will be based upon Alice in Wonderland, as 2015 marks the 150th Anniversary of this popular book.

Doors will open at 10am for the Book Fair and Book Crossing, where books may be taken free of charge. Local authors will also be present as from 10am promoting, signing and selling their books.

Authors wishing to set up a stand can collect an application form from the John Mackintosh Hall and are advised to apply as soon as possible due to the limited number of spaces.

As from 4pm, children aged between 4 and 8 can enjoy Fun Games and Story Time and are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite book character costume. A Competition sponsored by the Gibraltar Chronicle will also take place where winners will be rewarded with a copy of Alice in Wonderland.

This year also introduces the ‘Book Club With No Name.’ The aim is to advise members of the public on how to start a book club. As a sample session, several books will be discussed, including:

  • “Rebecca” by Daphne DuMaurier
  • “The Great Gatsby” by F Scott Fitzgerald
  • “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett
  • “The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window” by Jonas
Johansson

All these books are available at the John Mackintosh Hall Library.

Avid reader Mr Charlie Durante will also be available on the day to chat about his top 10 favourite books and an adult quiz is scheduled as part of the afternoon activities.

Food and beverages can be purchased from The Library Cafeteria which will be offering a special afternoon tea.

We hope that you can come down and enjoy a fun-packed World Book Day. For further information please contact Kieran or Tanya on Tel: 20075669 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
