Mar 11 - GSD Rebukes Chief Minister's Claims Over Fresh Legal Proceedings

gsd gibraltar The GSD has criticised the Chief Minister’s ‘attempts to make political capital out of legal claims made against the Gibraltar Government’. Commenting on the second commencement of legal proceedings relating to housing developments undergone by the former administration, the party has said that ‘Mr Picardo is, unfortunately, incapable of putting Gibraltar before his own narrow political interests’.

A party spokesperson went on to say, ‘As Mr Picardo well knows the claim by Gibralcon 2004 SA, a subsidiary of the Spanish Construction company Bruesa, is frivolous, vexatious and entirely without merit. It has been subject to litigation in the High Court of London where Gibraltar Residential Properties Limited was successful in a judgment handed down on 19 October 2010.  The fact that this Spanish company is now trying it on in the courts in Spain, does not justify the attempt by the Chief Minister to make political capital out of it by trying to convey the impression that through its conduct the GSD Government has brought about these claims against Gibraltar.

‘The GSD Opposition would remind Mr Picardo that the only reason why his Government was able to succeed in the tunnel litigation was because of the correct, prudent and scrupulous administration of contracts and contractual relations with OHL by the GSD Government and its agents.  We have absolutely no doubt that the same will be found to be the case here and Mr Picardo should learn to put Gibraltar first and vigorously defend the interests of this community against all claims but particularly those which are vexatious and without merit as is this claim by this Spanish company.’
