Mar 23 - Dialogue with Basque MP Aims to Resolve Gibraltar Issues

The Chief Minister today welcomed Leader of the Basque Group EAG-PNV in the Spanish Parliament Aitor Esteban on his first visit to Gibraltar. The meeting between Sr. Esteban, Mr. Picardo and the Deputy Chief Minister came about following an invitation made by Mr. Picardo to leaders of Spanish political parties ‘to see the reality of Gibraltar and to continue the dialogue that we have enjoyed in Madrid.’

The meeting involved general discussions about the issues in Gibraltar. Sr. Esteban commented that the is often talk about Gibraltar in the Spanish Parliament, but he felt that it was unfair to discuss a place that you do not know personally. He further added that the meeting served to helped reach agreements over issues facing Gibraltar. A number of possible areas of cooperation between Gibraltar and the Basque Country were discussed including on economic matters.
