May 07 – Working Committee Established Between Unite The Union And Department Of Employment

The Minister for Business and Employment, Neil Costa, is pleased to announce that at the request of Unite the Union, a Working Committee between the Union and the Department of Employment has been established. This Working Committee was announced in the May Day Rally in Casemates by Charlie Robba on behalf of the Department of Employment and Albert Hewitt on behalf of Unite the Union. The purpose of this Working Committee is to discuss and collaborate on issues of mutual interest.

The parties have agreed that this Working Committee will meet every six weeks, and more frequently, as may be required, to discuss employment issues. The Committee will consist of members of the Union, including Regional Officers, the Youth Committee and Government Convenors, on the one hand, and with representatives of the Ministry and the Department of Employment on the other.

Commenting on the above, Minister Costa said: “In the Government’s view it is important that a Working Committee between Unite the Union and Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar has been created. This will undoubtedly create a working forum of cooperation where mutual issues of interest are raised and, most importantly, resolved. It is equally, if not even more crucial, that the Government fully engages with youth representatives from Unite so that their views and concerns are heard and looked at in good time with a view to plan for the future.”
