May 11 – GSD Presents New Executive Member

The Opposition this morning presented a new executive member as the party seeks to strengthen its team with what Leader Daniel Feetham described as “highly qualified individuals.”

The latest addition to the GSD is Chartered Accountant and Banker Roy Clinton who joins tax expert Chris White and retired Commissioner of Police Louis Wink as the most recent names to sign up to the party.

Mr Feetham says Mr Clinton has joined because he is concerned by the way the current administration is handling public finances.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the fact that his party was attracting qualified experts in areas like accounting and finance would help to drive home its message that Gibraltar’s public finances are being run in a reckless manner. Mr Feetham said that the input from such figures was proof that the GSD’s claims and arguments were “independently validated.”

Mr Clinton said that he was motivated to join the GSD after listening to the Chief Minister’s Christmas message during which he denied that Credit Finance was being used to fund Government projects. Mr Clinton dismissed this as “lawyer-speak” adding that, from a purely financial point of view, “it just doesn’t add up.”

Speaking about the need for transparency in Government accounts, he said: “Everything can be done in a transparent way – through the books of the Government.”

LNG Report

During questions, Mr Feetham also revealed that his party would soon be publishing a report conducted by “top experts” which would show that the Government’s plans for an LNG-fuelled power station and LNG storage facilities were not safe.
