May 27 - GSD Again Calls On Government To Publish Bullying Investigation

Today the GSD has renewed its calls for the Government to publish the findings of the investigation into the alleged bullying of 35 trainees at the ETB. According to a Government communique issued in April the findings of this investigation should have been ready by the middle of this month.

The GSD argues that “it is not good enough” for the GSLP/Liberal Government to suggest that this should be ‘an internal matter personal to a civil servant’, not when it has affected 35 young people and their families. Quite the opposite, says the party; this is a matter “of enormous public concern” and in the interests of transparency the findings should be published in full.

The Opposition says that GSLP/Liberals had no qualms in making public, on Spanish television no less, a matter of great sensitivity to this community when they criticised the management and care offered at the Giraldi Home. The GSD says that the irony will not be lost on the public that the same civil servant, who the Government is now trying to protect by not publicising the findings of this investigation, was at the forefront of making allegations against others, allegations which have subsequently been proven to be false.

Chairman of the GSD, Trevor Hammond said “The GSD will not allow this matter to be swept under the carpet and will continue to remind the people of Gibraltar of both the serious nature of the allegations that have been made and the Government’s refusal to demonstrate that justice has been seen to be done. Should the GSD be elected it undertakes to make the findings of this particular investigation public.”
