Jun 08 - World Maritime Day Celebrated In Gibraltar

The Gibraltar Port Authority, together with companies from the private sector, will be celebrating this year’s World Maritime Day by holding an open day in the port where members of the public will be able to see firsthand the wide range of activities carried out in the harbour and British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.

Every year the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) marks World Maritime Day, which is used to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment and to emphasize a particular aspect of IMO's work. This year IMO has chosen “Maritime education and training” as the theme for World Maritime Day which will be held on Sunday 27th September.

Further details on the event will be published nearer the time.

The Minister for Traffic, Transport and Technical Services, the Hon Paul Balban said: "World Maritime Day will give us the opportunity to showcase the fantastic work done by so many people across the full breadth of our vibrant maritime community."

The CEO and Captain of the Port, Bob Sanguinetti added: "Focusing on this year’s theme of education and training I am keen to give the younger members of the public a glimpse of the sorts of careers available to them in this exciting environment."
