Jun 12 - Chief Minister To Address United Nations Special Committee On Decolonisation

The Chief Minister will travel to New York this weekend to deliver his annual speech to the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation, often referred to as the Committee of 24. The Chief Minister is scheduled to address the Special Committee on Monday morning, New York time.

The Chief Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia, and the Chief Secretary, Ernest Gomez. The Gibraltar delegation will return from New York on Tuesday.

Whilst Mr Picardo is away, the Acting Chief Minister will be Gilbert Licudi who will represent the Chief Minister at the Gibraltar vs Germany football match in Faro on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said: ‘I look forward to defending the interests of Gibraltar and to delivering the message loud and clear to the Special Committee that Gibraltar does not belong on their list of non-self-governing territories. I wish the GFA all the best for Saturday’s match against Germany and I shall be following it closely. I am confident that, no matter what the result, the team will again do us proud.’
