Jun 14 - Fatal Car Crash On Journey Back From Faro

There was a fatal crash involving a coach of Gibraltar football fans and a van on their return from Faro after the Euro Qualifying match against Germany last night.

 

Some of the occupants of the bus returning to Gibraltar have suffered injuries were attended at Algeciras Hospital and St Bernard’s Hospital.

However, six occupants, believed to be Moroccan nationals, from the van have suffered very serious injuries and one has suffered fatal injuries.

The Government wishes the injured GFA supporters and any surviving occupants of the other vehicle a full and speedy recovery and expresses its condolences to the families of those tragically deceased.

The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo will be writing to the Moroccan Ambassador to London to express sincere condolences to His Majesty the King of Morocco on behalf of the Government and People of Gibraltar.

A statement from the GFA read: “Regrettably, the GFA understands that the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the accident suffered fatal injuries.

“This is dreadful news and the GFA offers its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.

“The GFA wishes a speedy recovery to the fans who sustained injuries in this terrible accident.”
