Jun 16 – Exciting New Opportunity For Civil Servants

Graduate civil servants in possession of an Upper Second Class Degree (2.1), or above, in any subject, are being given the opportunity to further their skills.

The Government is taking applications from those who would like to be considered for a one year placement within the United Kingdom Civil Service Fast Stream Graduate Development Programme. This is the first time that the UK Fast Stream will be available to graduate civil servants who are already working in Gibraltar.

The Civil Service Fast Stream helps graduates enhance their skills and experience and prepare them further to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

During this placement the successful candidate will undergo an intense period of training and experience in various UK Government Departments. He/she might find themselves working in areas such as education, the economy, foreign affairs, defence policy, health, the environment and many more.

Accommodation and a subsistence allowance will be provided by the Government of Gibraltar throughout the placement.

Chief Secretary, Ernest Gomez, said: “I am delighted to announce this exciting opportunity, which will no doubt be extremely valuable to our graduate civil servants, and to the continuing professional development of Gibraltar’s Civil Service as a whole. I am confident that the placements will be mutually beneficial and we are looking to be able to provide similar placements in the future.”

The Chief Minister, the Honourable Fabian Picardo QC, said: “The Government is pleased to be supporting this Civil Service training initiative as part of its overall investment in the continuing professional development of its public servants. Any scheme designed to develop the skills and widen the scope of experience of officers in our Public Administration not only serves to enrich the working environment but also to enhance the quality of the service offered to the community.

“The intensity of the training programme being offered, coupled with the opportunity to experience first-hand the workings of the wider UK government administrative structure, will undoubtedly stand the officer and our service as a whole in good stead.

“The Government hopes to continue investing in this initiative in the years to come in its attempt to increase the level of expertise of our Civil Service and equip it with the best practice available to enable it to face the ever-increasing challenges of the future.”
