Jun 25 - Spark Taking Legal Advice After Picardo Statement – Company Denies Responsibility For Power Cuts

Spark Group of Companies has said that it is taking legal advice following the statement made by the Chief Minister in Parliament yesterday afternoon.

A company spokesperson said:

“We are taking this statement very seriously indeed and we are currently taking legal advice and we will not be making any further statements until we receive such advice."

The company has also rejected any suggestion that it was in some way responsible for the recent power cuts:

“We also emphatically deny any inference that the recent power cuts have been caused intentionally. This is simply not true. We have instructed independent third parties as well as our service provider, who is operating our power stations, Energyst – Caterpillar Rental Division to inspect our power plants following the latest power cuts. We are currently waiting for the finalised report. However, all required tests have been completed and we are informed that no fault or deliberate intervention has been found or exists at our power plants.

“We invite HM Government, to which we will happily contribute financially, to instruct a joint independent third party to inspect the whole of the power generation and distribution facilities in Gibraltar in order to localise and identify the problem causing these power cuts and to ensure that the community no longer is subject to any power cuts.”
