Jun 25 – GSLP-Libs Set For A Landslide – YGTV Poll Results

The GSLP-Liberal Alliance is set to secure a crushing victory over the GSD in this year’s General Election according to the results of YGTV’s postal opinion poll.

HUGE LEAD

The poll shows that the Alliance currently enjoys the support of 60% of the electorate with the GSD Opposition trailing behind on just 27%. Some 13% of those who returned our ballot papers said they were either undecided as yet or would abstain.

When one factors out the “Don’t Know / Abstain” results, the GSLP-Libs have a 69% share with the GSD coming in at 31%.

PARTY ISSUES

Members of the public were also asked whether there was anything about their party of choice that they would like to change or improve. Although no single issue clearly dominated people’s concerns, a trend emerged among GSLP-Liberal supporters calling for the resignation of GSLP founder and former Chief Minister Joe Bossano. Among the GSD supporters who filled in this section, many indicated that they wished to see a change in the party’s current leadership and team.

METHOD

YGTV sent out 1,000 poll sheets to addresses in all of Gibraltar’s electoral districts. After five weeks, we had received 240 replies which is a typical return rate for local postal ballots. The polls were strictly confidential and it was not possible to identify the respondent.

We requested that only people who were eligible to vote fill in the form and return it to us in the freepost envelope provided.

The questions were: 1:Which party do you intend to vote for at this year’s General Election?

And: 2: What could be improved about the party you intend to vote for?

YGTV Editor Giordano Durante said: “This is the first time that YGTV has conducted a political opinion poll. The results support a pattern in voting intentions which has also been picked up by other media outlets in recent months. The Chronicle, GBC and Panorama have all predicted a landslide win for the GSLP-Libs. I would like to thank all those who filled in and returned the poll slips.”
