Jul 15 - GBGA Case Goes To EU Court Of Justice

The Government notes the decision of the High Court in London to refer the case brought by the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA) to the European Court of Justice.

The Government of Gibraltar was a party to the proceedings brought by the GBGA as an 'Interested Party' due to the significance of the issue which arose in the case of Gibraltar's status and relationship with the United Kingdom within the European Union.

The Government therefore notes the decision of the Judge, Sir William Charles to refer aspects of this question to the European Court of Justice for determination.

The Government says that the issues in this case are “complex and technical” that will need further detailed consideration and Government will now take advice on the terms of the Judgment in order to determine next steps.

The Government says it will continue to work closely with the United Kingdom on the political aspects of the relationship with the European Union.
