Jul 16 - Spark Replies To Minister Cortes’ Letter

The Spark Group of Companies has replied to the letter by Minister Dr John Cortes in the Gibraltar Chronicle on Tuesday.

In response to Dr Cortes' call for the release of the full Lloyd’s Register documentation, Spark Energy has today published a copy of the Lloyd’s Register Report on its website.

The company says the document, which can be accessed here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/behnyiyi4f3nppa/Spark%20Group%20Gibraltar%20LNG%20Terminal%20Report%20FINAL.pdf?dl=0) is “unredacted, unchanged and in full.”

The company says this document proves that the version previously published was not "substantially redacted"  and neither was it 100 pages long as some media sources claimed.

A company spokesperson continued:

“We also emphasise that the suggestion that the report has been based on fictitious bunkering terminal or single skin tank is absurd. To say more, we are not aware of any single skinned LNG tank technology existing due to the nature of the product and the requirement to store it at minus 160 degrees. The report was based on the expressions of interest invited by the Government last year for ‘a minimum of 12,000 cubic metres’ of LNG. We also did not tender for the power station as had been suggested.

“We do not intend to involve ourselves any further at this stage and it is our intention to wait for the report that Lloyd's Register will produce for the Government. We are sure that that report will be on similar terms to the one we have published and it will be evidence of the fact that the accusation that we have deliberately misinformed Lloyd's is simply yet another untrue and unfounded allegation.

“We maintain that disclosing the Report was in the public interest and we hope that in light of the publication of the full report the Government, through its Ministers, will cease making remarks which damage the reputation of Spark.”
