Jul 22 – Government Says Its Position On LNG Safety Reports Is Clear

Number Six has said that the GSD is “once again playing semantic games” with the important issue of LNG storage and supply.

Since the beginning of this process, the Government says it has had reports that confirmed that the storage of LNG could safely be undertaken‎ in the area of the North Mole. These, says Number Six, were preliminary reports based on indications and assumptions and were not about the “mature proposals” which are now being considered.

At this present stage,‎ the Government says ithas yet to take a final decision between three highly-detailed designs for the supply of gas to the proposed dual-fuelled power station.

The Government has also confirmed that for each of these designs it has a full Quantitative Risk Assessment which is a formalised specialist method for calculating individual, environmental, employee and public risk levels.

These three QRAs are being shared with the Health and Safety Laboratory and now also with Lloyd’s Register for their own risk assessments or "Safety Reports.‎"

The Government says that it had, has and will have the "Safety Reports" necessary and appropriate for each stage in the process of determining which LNG storage and regasification option it will determine is the best for Gibraltar.

“Nothing could be clearer,” concluded a statement.
