Jul 23 – Gareth Gingell Says Picardo’s Use Of Taxpayers’ Money For Libel Case Is “Unfair”
The man who is the focus of a libel action after he posted comments on his Facebook profile about the Chief Minister has said that Mr Picardo’s use of taxpayers’ money to fund the legal case is “unfair.”
Gareth Gingell says that, while the Chief Minister can rely on public funds to pay for representation, legal assistance for members of the public is not available for libel cases.
“The obvious unfairness of a wealthy QC using public money to bring libel cases when ordinary Gibraltarians such as me cannot have public funding for such cases will not have escaped people," said Mr Gingell.
