Aug 20 - The GSD Welcomes The Celebration Of The Life Of Sir Joshua Hassan
The GSD adds its voice to that of Government in celebration of the life and achievements of Sir Joshua Hassan.
One of the ‘founding fathers’ of the modern Gibraltarian community, Sir Joshua played a key role in establishing our rights as a people, fighting for those rights internationally and ensuring the first key steps were taken in the development of Gibraltar as an autonomous and self-governing entity. He fostered many of the changes which we take for granted today.
It is right that these achievements should be celebrated and the GSD is fully supportive of the announcements made by Government yesterday for the issue of a £100 note dated for the Birthday of Sir Joshua, the 21st of August.
We also endorse the announcement by the Chief Minister of the commissioning of a bronze statue of Sir Joshua, a permanent reminder of the man and the esteem with which our community holds him.
