Oct 02 - Road Resurfacing Works At Varyl Begg Estate Now Complete

The Government has announced that the second and final phase of the road resurfacing works at Varyl Begg Estate have now been completed. The works have covered the peripheral areas of the estate and have also included roadways.

The project has consisted of the initial removal of road surfaces and subsequent resurfacing of all areas, including parking spaces. Previous parking demarcations have been altered throughout some areas and all parking bays have been repainted and renumbered. This has enabled the formation of 30 new parking bays as well as a school drop-off area for St Paul’s School.

The project has also seen public pavements renewed with stone pavers, new planted areas and new rain water drainage laid in areas prone to flooding.

The Minister for Housing, Samantha Sacramento, said:
“It gives me great pleasure to see the completion of the second phase of works. The thorough planning and close collaboration between the various departments concerned has resulted in a significant increase of much needed parking capacity for the Estate which will not only benefit tenants but also created a drop-off area for St.Paul’s School. The Estate also generally looks much better as a result.”

The Minister for Transport, Traffic and Technical Services, Paul Balban, said:
“As part of the ongoing refurbishment programme throughout Gibraltar, It gives me great satisfaction to see the completion of the much needed road resurfacing project at Varyl Begg Estate. It has also been a pleasure to have assisted the Ministry for Housing. This project has seen joint collaboration between the Ministry for Housing, the Ministry for Transport, Traffic and Technical Services, and the Highways Section of Technical Services Department.”
