Nov 02 - Port Authority Carry Out Emergency Evacuation Of Cruise Passenger

Yesterday at 20:00, the passenger liner Norwegian Jade requested an emergency evacuation of a 72-year-old passenger who was choking. The vessel was eight miles from Gibraltar at the time of the call.

The Gibraltar Port Authority duty officer immediately initiated the Emergency Medical Evacuation procedure and the paramedics were informed.

The vessel was brought into the bay and the passenger was successfully transferred to St. Bernard's Hospital.

The Minister with responsibility for the Port, Paul Balban, has conveyed his thanks on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar to those members of the Gibraltar Port Authority and the Ambulance crew for their professionalism in dealing with this emergency.
