Nov 09 - Convent Christmas Fair Poster Competition Winners Announced

A 10-year-old St Anne’s Middle School pupil was this year’s poster competition winner, and will have her work displayed around Gibraltar advertising this year’s Convent Christmas Fair on Thursday 26th November.

Anna Byrne was handed a Samsung Tablet 3, donated by Starnet, by Her Excellency the Governor Alison MacMillan as well.

Other students whose posters were highly commended judges from the Convent Christmas Fair Committee, Anselmo Torres and Jacqueline Daley ranged from years four to seven.

Erin Appleton from Year 7 at St Joseph’s Middle School, Shelli Abudarham from Year 6 at the Hebrew School, Year 5 pupil Chelsey Parody from St Joseph’s Middle School and Ben Imossi from Year 4 at St Joseph’s Middle School were given a kit of colouring in pencils by Mrs MacMillan.

Suzy Kirkby, Chairman of the Convent Christmas Fair Committee said there were lots of entries for this year’s poster competition, and it was a difficult task to choose the winner.

She adds: “We were looking for something that could be made into a poster, and something that had a happy feel about the fair to it.”

With regards to this year’s fair, there are around 36 stalls with crafts and gift. There will be a motorbike raffle for a Honda SX 125 donated by Bassadone, and tickets are being sold for £2 each, at the Piazza this Thursday and at Morisson’s Supermarket on Saturday 21st November.

There will be mulled wine and mince pies donated by the Red Cross, the Loreto Convent Choir singing Christmas Carols and a visit from Santa on the day. Jazz Friends will also be performing carols from 4pm onwards in the Cloisters.

Money raised from this year’s event will go towards Saffron Rose for Rhett Charitable Trust, Pathway Through Pain, Autism Support Gibraltar and Down Syndrome Support Group Gibraltar.

Entry is £2 at the door, and children under 12 go for free.
